Want advice on using Circular Polarized Filter with my dslr?
Will be shooting random shots at a fishing tournament, bright sunny weather is expected. Lots of shots with water included. Question 1: I normally keep a UV on lens for protection, should I remove it or keep it on lens WITH the CPL or go with the CPL only? Q2: Shooting in jpeg, with Canon dslr. I've heard that using AWB probably isn't way to go. Thinking of setting w.b to the "sunny" pre-set and lowering exposure comp a bit. Need your suggestions, I won't be able to really check my results under the expected bright sunny conditions. Thanks.
Answer:
Stacking filters is rarely a good idea, too easy to "trap" reflections between filters and get flare. I, personally, would shoot RAW + JPG, and "auto everything" for this application and make exposure compensations ONLY AS NECESSARY to the RAW images with the software that came with your camera. If, on the other hand, you are required by whomever hired you to shoot JPG and turn in images as you go I would not try to force anything with exposure compensation unless I had personal knowledge that my camera shoots "hot" (overexposes). And use a lenshood. Good luck.
