Our local electronic store is selling the Nikon D40 for 432 $ (special holiday sale), and it's the cheapest i've seen so far here in Canada. But i've been reading about the specs of the new Canon XS and would kinda prefer to stick with Canon lens since they are easier to find and generally a little cheaper than Nikon lens. You should get the canon eos rebel xsi, it's a much better camera, it has much more megapixels, a larger screen, and live view, none of which are found on the nikon d40. The rebel xsi is by far a much better camera, and you really can't compare them. The rebel xsi is much better, there's no comparison.
