Advantages/ Disadvantages to only having a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor Lens?
I have had the Nikon D40 for about 6 months now, and the stock kit lens recently broke while taking pictures at night one evening. It will not zoom in/out anymore and I have been researching as to whether it is better to simply buy the 55-200mm instead of dealing with the stock kit lens again. Is this a good idea? Or will it be a hassle to only have the 55-200mm since it is mostly for far away shots?
Any advice/comments on the 55-200mm lens would be great.

This 55-200mm DX VR lens is supposed to be really good. And it's nice that it has VR. A good lens it may be, but not a lens you'd want as your "only" lens. Say for Christmas morning... you'd have to be taking pictures from the next room because it's not capable of going wide enough.
Fhotoace is right about the 18-200mm DX VR lens. It's pretty hot and I have really enjoyed the times I've been fortunate enough to use one. They were hard to find for a while but are starting to become more readily available. After getting my order delayed for 6 months for one of these Amazon cancelled my order... tired of waiting I bought the 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lens instead.
