Nikon S5100 - Fast, Compact And Easy To Use Camera
Nikon has unveiled a new budget-friendly point-and-shoot camera, called the Coolpix S5100, a Coolpix S-series model that incorporates advanced functions in a stylish design. Although there really aren't many earth-shattering innovations on the Nikon Coolpix S5100, the company has given a bit of a jolt to the camera's reflexes and smart factor, specializing in speed and style. The Nikon S5100 also adds a new tripod detection function found on premium NIKKOR Lenses. Advanced flash control and lens shift VR image stabilization combine with enhanced Motion Detection and ISO 3200 capability at any image size to help ensure stunning results when the lights are low. Auto detection and exposure setting for tripod and handheld shooting further ensures a higher ratio of keepers.
The new Nikon S5100 lies in between the S4000 and the S6000. With 5x Optical Zoom and a range of 28-140 mm (35mm equivalent), connected to a CCD image sensor with an effective resolution of 12.2-megapixel, the S5100 fits nicely in between them. It is Nikon’s answer to the storm of relatively cheap entry-level cameras that are being offered by virtually every manufacturer on every street corner. It is difficult for a manufacturer to distinguish itself in this price segment. Nikon does this by equipping the camera with a new image processor.
The Nikon S5100 is equipped with features that ensure the certain capture of those once-in-a-lifetime moments in beautiful images. Among these features, there is also one-touch 720p HD video recording at 30fps, thanks to a dedicated Record button located on the back of the camera.
The hype over the Coolpix S5100 centers around the fact that the camera promises a startup time of under a second and a short shutter release time. Nikon has implemented its new EXPEED C2 image processing on the 12.2-megapixel compact, and the Nikon Coolpix S5100's speedy operation is likely a result of this upgrade.
The Nikon S5100 is also equipped with ViewNX 2, an all-in-one software package that enables photographers to quickly and easily import, browse, edit and share still images and movies. Building upon the highly successful ViewNX software, ViewNX 2 is a consumer-friendly suite that offers a great range of features, going well beyond those supplied as part of a PC’s operating system. Newly-incorporated advanced movie-editing functions have been taken directly from Nikon’s award-winning DSLR range, enabling users to create amazing movie footage. ViewNX 2 is included with all Nikon digital cameras and is also available as a free download.

Frequently Asked Questions...
will the following lenses work properly with my nikon D5000... fhotoace pls help me again thank you in advance?
i asked this same question before and got a great answer, now I actually know what the new lenses are so I'm asking again... the lenses are as follows:
Promaster Spectrum 7 Nikon AF NIKKOR 75-300 mm zoom
Promaster Spectrum AF 100-400 mm Autofocus Zoom
AF NIKKOR Photoco Sky 28-85 mm lens
Now from the answer to the question I asked before I am guessing that these lenses will work on my camera. they just wont auto focus. If this statement is wrong could you please explain it to me.
Assuming that my previous statement is correct and I go ahead and get these lenses what would you suggest that I pay for them.
Answer:
For a lens to be able to autofocus with your camera, the lens must have the prefix "AFS" in it (for Nikkor lenses). AFS means the lens has a autofocus motor built in. If you are looking for third party lenses, make sure they have the equivalent of an AFS motor, Sigma calls it "HSM", but im not quite sure about the others.
All the lenses you listed, if I'm not mistaken, will not autofocus with your D5000. However, they will still meter correctly.
