Frequently Asked Questions...
Can anyone review the Nikon : AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED?
I want to use it for sports photography. The zoom range is perfect but can I expect high quality images at 300mm? I will probably be using a monopod if I cant hold it steady by hand.
Answer:
It's very decent in the 70-200mm range but the image quality deteriorates from there to 300mm. Even so, for the price it's the best you'll get at 300mm. All of the other Nikon and third party 70-300mm versions are the same or worse (albeit cheaper). To achieve a noticeable improvement at the 300mm range you're looking at an $800 investment - the cheapest option I can think of is a discontinued, used Nikon 80-200mm with a 1.4x TC.
