Frequently Asked Questions...
Shall i get the Nikon 24-120mm VR lens for my D40X?
I’m thinking about getting the “Nikon AF-S ED VR 24-120mm F3.5-4-5.6G IF Auto focus Zoom” for my d40x as a replacement for the stock “18-55mm lens.
Its fairly cheap, has VR and a decent zoom.
However I was a little worried that it’s a bit old now (2003 release date)
Shall I still buy this lens or get another.
Thanks, any views appreciated
Answer:
You're better off getting this lens, the 18-200mm VR:

The differences being VR II vs. VR. VR II is the better version, it has automatic tripod detection and advanced panning capability. It is both longer and wider. And the focal range is more useful for crop cameras at the wide end. The price difference is around $200. Well spent, if you ask me. Many people got the 24-120mm VR while they waited for the 18-200mm VR to come out and found that they should have just waited. The two lenses are worlds apart. My advice, spend the extra $ and get the better lens.
