help! i need a suggestion from fellow photographers
?
hello there!
i've been doing photography for about 1 and a half years now. I have a Nikon D60 with:
- AFS Nikkor 18-55 mm lens
- AFS Nikkor 60 mm Micro lens (macro shots)
- AF Nikkor 10.5mm Fisheye lens
I am looking to update my camera body. I feel that i want to perhaps make my hobby a bit more professional, and there are a few things that I want. I absolutely love my D60, but here are things I want:
- to stay with nikon haha
- more frames per second (the D60 i believe is 3 fps)
- a crisper, better image with better resolution
- quick auto-focus
- easy to use in manual mode (changing shutter speed, aperture, iso, etc)
- (optional) video mode
I was looking at either the D90 or the D300S
There really is no price limit. But i'm not looking for anything super professional yet, like the D3X or anything lmao. If anyone has any suggestions, please LET ME KNOW!
Thank you for looking at my question!

Answer:
I had the Nikon D60 (purchased early last year) and just upgraded a few weeks ago to the Nikon D90. FPS are going to be up to 4.5 vs the D60's 3. The D90 has more dedicated controls to quickly adjust things like ISO, WB, metering, and image quality. Also, the addition of the front dial allows you to adjust aperture while the back one allows you to adjust shutter speed (instead of having to press a button + using only 1 dial on the D60). + Live view, video and the fact that your lenses will be fully compatible with the D90.
I would recommend the D90. You should try google searching 'D90 vs. D300s' I know this question has been answered in more detail than anyone here can probably provide you.
The D300s is going to cost you quite a bit more. I would purchase a decent telephoto zoom lens with the extra money you save from the D90. You need to look around for deals. I bought a 3 month old D90 w/ 18-105mm lens for $800 on Craigslist. The camera only had 1.5k shutter actuations.
